For the Love of Gut Health

The gut is intricately connected to every other part of out bodies, including our brains and immune systems.
 

Looking back, my gut flora was SHOT since I was a child. I had issues concentrating, issues with fecal elimination, gas, bloating, excessive tiredness, anxiety, mood imbalance, sugar cravings, sleep issues, and even eczema! All of which are signs of gut microbiome imbalance. Yes! You read that right! Good and bad health start with the gut and when the bacteria, yeast, and viruses that live in our guts are balanced, the body follows suit. However, when things are imbalanced, and the bad bacteria outweigh the good, it can lead to poor gut health, and if not supported or corrected, it can lead to dis-ease.

Gut issues “ran in my family”

Before I knew just how crucial gut health was to maintaining homeostasis within the body, I was focused on treating the symptoms of poor gut health that I was experiencing instead of irradiating the cause of the issues. I was told about probiotics, but all I heard in my family was that “Probiotics do the opposite in our family. We just genetically have severe dismotility so probiotics don’t work for us, they make us worse.” Sadly, I believed this up until about a year ago(yes I’m STILL learning and discovering new truths  even as a Holistic Health Specialist, go figure haha). 

When I embarked on the journey of healing my eldest sun of GI issues, I quickly realized that I too needed the same! I began studying SIBO(small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), indigestion, constipation, the colon, fiber, bile, peristalsis, & all the fancy gut stuff that I’ll just confuse you with if I continue naming them haha. I discovered that in all of the herbs the most high left us, he/she first left us with the perfect balance of good and bad bacteria in our guts that would allow us to experience life in a supreme manner. Unfortunately, we begin damaging this divine balance the moment we are born. From formula, to excessive sugar intake, to vaccines, to antibiotics, to meat, dairy, and processed food consumption, you name it! 

I desperately, for mine and Eli’s sake, needed to figure this thing out and that’s when I discovered that my family belief about probiotics was INDEED true.. TEMPORARILY! Though there is no set timeframe, as all bodies are different, probiotics will have side affects that cause you to feel “worse” before you feel better. Typically, depending on the level of imbalance within the gut, the first 2days to 2 weeks can be filled with: 
  • Gas & Bloating
  • Irregularity(slowed transit time which for those struggling with constipation such as my family, can find to be TOUGH)
  • Headaches
Though these short term “side effects” can be annoying, I encourage you to stick it out! Remember, symptoms should not be ignored or suppressed, they should be supported & tended to! These are simply signs that your body is working to restore itself and in this case, it is restoring the balance of the good to bad bacteria ratio. Water is key during what I’ll call the incubation period and for life, so remember to drink a minimum of half your body weight in oz starting with 32oz upon rising(waking) every day! 💦
