Anti-Acids are NOT our friends!!

Anti-Acids are NOT our friends!!

A very common misunderstanding is if you have GERD/acid reflux, you have too much stomach acid. Quite the opposite is true. Low stomach acid will cause the lower esophageal sphincter(LES) to remain open, causing stomach acid and contents to reflux into the esophagus.
The LES is bundle of smooth muscle that sits at the bottom of esophagus and the top of the stomach and protects the reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus.
Relying on acid-reducing medication causes a vicious cycle of constantly needing to neutralize symptoms, which in turn creates a low stomach acid environment, which in turn causes the LES to stay open and pyloric valve to spasm shut. The pyloric valve needs to open and close to control the passage of partially digested food and stomach juices from the pylorus(low stomach) to the duodenum(beginning of small intestine). This equates to more and more reflux and more and more antacids. The best thing to do is stop the cycle!
Many infections, like c diff and h pylori, can be the result of low stomach acid. So if you consistently get infections and these bacteria are found, it’s due to low stomach acid.
Here are four tips I recommend for increasing stomach acid:
  1. Eat some ginger, or take Royal Cider 3x a day for 3 days.
  2. When eating, take smaller bites to stimulate your digestive enzymes and chew your food down to a pulp before swallowing. This can eliminate symptoms associated with low stomach acid and help maintain a positive level in your stomach.
  3. Avoid processed foods and sugars as they are NOT real food so they cause inflammation in your stomach, decrease acid activity, and trigger acid reflux symptoms.
  4. Take probiotics from the refrigerator section 2hrs after you last dose of cider each evening.

Okay, I know I said 4 tips, but here’s a fifth haha. I recommend a good and thorough detox! Detox using the Royal Reboot Program. Then rebuild your stomach acid levels by taking Royal Cider daily for 7 days while supporting your digestive tract with probiotics & Eli’s Gift
